Jasonien vs Arcan
Map: Barren Wasteland
STF 2.0.1
Red: Jasonien
Blue: Arcan
When we started to play, I contemplated whether I should go for the rigged Assault (in this version), or the usual Snipers. Scouting the layout (well not really, I made the map. ^_^), I decided to go Snipers because of the high ground on the level. All of a sudden, a Scout comes flying at my workers, and to my disdain, Arcan was actually microing it! I lost 2 Engineers and valuable time before I was able to dispatch the annoyance, and I started my Espionage Facility, as well as the necessary Refinery.
Once I built 3 Snipers, I fortified my lower choke point with 2 Sentryguns, so the Snipers would have line of sight to any enemies that approached from this direction. I became lazy and did nothing but make troops, and completely forgot about the Engineer in the lower choke. Then, I see 3 Demomen firing at my Sentryguns! Okay, I know what Arcan's doing, time for me to use Spies! Spies are melee attackers, and when the Demomen shoot into melee, they do splash to both allies and enemies. Luckily, the Snipers were able to take out the Demomen with the only casualties being my Engineer down there, and 1 Sentrygun. By now, it didn't seem that I was getting enough resources to combat Arcan head on, so I decided to expand to the expansion in the far upper left. I planted my Snipers behind a couple of trees, and sent a cloaked Spy up onto the ledge by Arcan's natural expansion. There, I noticed that he had started to produce a Sentrygun on the ledge, and was being protected by 2 Pyros. Well, I thought that it would be a perfect time take out the Pyros, while the Sentrygun was still building. Long story short, the Pyros ran before I was able to kill them, but at least I was able to destroy the Sentrygun before it came online.
By this time, my expansion was up and running, and I expanded to my natural, in the hopes of getting Ospreys and taking the only remaining expansion (lower right). Over at the upper left expansion, I got an Assault Facility, and started pumping out Soldiers. I figured that if I could get 8 Soldiers in an Osprey, the game would be mine. Once I had the Soldiers, I loaded them into an Osprey, and sent it over to the unclaimed expansion. Unfortunately, Arcan had JUST started to build there, so I decided to unload the troops. Argh, he now knows where my expansion will be, and he has Ospreys to get there! I dispatch the base, and start my own Hub. Out of nowhere, a large army of Pyros and Demomen drop onto the expansion, and start beating the crap out of my Soldiers. The Pyro's Napalm ability works like Psionic Storm, and Soldiers are the second slowest units in the game, so it's nearly impossible to evade it with those guys. Needless to say, my expansion had been crushed, but I was able to take out a fair amount of Arcan's troops. I formulated a plan to overrun his bases with Flying Fortresses, so I started to get as many Ospreys as I could, seeing as how Flying Fortresses are only anti-ground, and other Ospreys blow them out of the sky.
Once I had 2 Flying Fortresses and about 5 Ospreys, 2 loaded with men, I headed over to the expansion. BOOM! The whole place goes almost without a fight, as my 5 Ospreys are more than a match for his 2. I took my Flying Fortresses, and flew them into his base, and crushed all opposition, and dropped all my troops. Victory goes to me!
